Fighting Back Against Parkinson's Disease!

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative movement disorder which can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function. The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation estimates there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year. Rock Steady Boxing - Houston was the first affiliate Rock Steady gym in Texas dedicated to the fight against Parkinson’s.

Help Us Fight Back!

What is Rock Steady Boxing?

We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life.

By exercising with coaches in your corner, you can fight this opponent and start to feel and function better. RSB is a non-contact boxing & fitness inspired program dedicated to helping people who are diagnosed with all levels of Parkinson’s. These innovative classes are getting amazing results, even slowing down the progression of the disease. We send a message of hope and motivation to our boxers. They may not win titles or trophies, but they are all champions in the Rock Steady Boxing Ring.

We love you Phil Bozzo!

One of our founding boxers has passed away, but left a powerful message...

..."I've found a whole new group of friends at the age of 85. I've lost 20 pounds, and gained more than words could ever say." When Phil passed, he was wearing one of his Rock Steady Boxing shirts. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Battenberg's Martial Arts & Fitness - where Phil trained, and where his legacy can help other boxers in the future!

Take Control of YOUR Future

Rock Steady Boxing gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life.

If you have, or know someone that has Parkinson's in Houston, please tell them about this opportunity!

Various studies in the 1980s and 1990s supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. More recent studies, most notably at Cleveland Clinic, focus on the concept of intense “forced” exercise, and have begun to suggest that certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective, i.e., actually slowing disease progression.

Boxing Class

Boxing classes will help build impressive power, strength, flexibility and speed! By exercising with Coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.

Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life..

Yes, YOU can do it!

Rock Steady classes are divided into four levels based upon each person’s unique Parkinson’s symptoms and overall level of fitness.

We require all potential boxers to complete an assessment with one of our Coaches to determine the class placement that would be of greatest benefit to them.

Why We Box...

Core Body Strength

P.D. can dramatically effect posture. Through RSB, your core body strength will improve, thus improving your posture.

Rigidity vs. Flexibility

As Parkinson's attacks flexibility, Rock Steady Boxing improves flexibility - thus making Rigidity a thing of the past!

//

Agility

Through the extensive Boxing Movements and Exercises we do in Rock Steady Boxing classes, shuffling gait is improved on a daily basis.

Through rigorous exercise with motivational coaches, moods change for our "Parkies" - we are all one big, happy family.
