What is Rock Steady Boxing?

We are learning every day that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life.

By exercising with coaches in your corner, you can fight this opponent and start to feel and function better. RSB is a non-contact boxing & fitness inspired program dedicated to helping people who are diagnosed with all levels of Parkinson’s. These innovative classes are getting amazing results, even slowing down the progression of the disease. We send a message of hope and motivation to our boxers. They may not win titles or trophies, but they are all champions in the Rock Steady Boxing Ring.

Take Control of YOUR Future

Rock Steady Boxing gives people with Parkinson’s disease hope by improving their quality of life.

Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative movement disorder which can cause deterioration of motor skills, balance, speech and sensory function. The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation estimates there are more than 1 million people in the United States diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and more than 60,000 people are diagnosed each year.

Various studies in the 1980s and 1990s supported the notion that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, could favorably impact range of motion, flexibility, posture, gait, and activities of daily living. More recent studies, most notably at Cleveland Clinic, focus on the concept of intense “forced” exercise, and have begun to suggest that certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective, i.e., actually slowing disease progression.

Boxing Class

Boxing classes will help build impressive power, strength, flexibility and speed! By exercising with Coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.

Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life..

Yes, YOU can do it!

Rock Steady classes are divided into four levels based upon each person’s unique Parkinson’s symptoms and overall level of fitness.

We require all potential boxers to complete an assessment with one of our Coaches to determine the class placement that would be of greatest benefit to them.

You are not alone, we will fight this together!

Classes are held at 9:15am, and 10:45am every Tuesday, and Thursday at Battenberg's Black Belt Academy, Inc. 23974 US-59 (close to Luby's) Kingwood, TX 77339.

PD 3/4 (9:15 - 10:15am) This is a low to moderate-intensity paced class. It is for participants who need assistance putting on gloves, getting water, standing/walking, or who might have balance or postural difficulties. It is also for those who can still walk independently, but to a limited extent. We ask that ALL new member who have not had their assessment begin in this class as well. A cornerman MUST be in attendance with someone in the PD 3/4 class. There are no exceptions to this rule.

PD 1/2 (10:45am - 12:00pm) Participants usually already have experience in some form of athletics -- and are physically able to handle a much more intense workout. Classes are fast-paced with a higher intensity, and transitions are rapid between exercises. No assistance should be required during your training.

There is a registration fee of $30 for your personal assessment, boxing gloves, and hand wraps. Membership is only $150/month. We will pro-rate your first months payment with however much time is left in that month. We are a 501c3 organization, and can help scholarship some if/when the need arises.
Our classes are split so that ALL levels of people affected by Parkinson's disease will be able to participate. NO prior boxing (or even exercise) experience is necessary! YES, you can do it. We can tailor every exercise to meet your needs. You will be AMAZED at how much you can do with a little extra motivation!
